How Acupuncture Helps

Supportive Care to Help You Get Back to Doing What You Love

Staying active matters, and setbacks are frustrating. Acupuncture is a drug-free approach many active people use to support comfort and relaxation as part of a broader recovery routine. For an acute injury, always start with your physician or physical therapist for diagnosis and a rehab plan — this care complements theirs and is not a substitute for medical evaluation. We coordinate around what your care team recommends.

  • A drug-free option to support comfort during recovery
  • May help ease muscle tension and promote relaxation
  • Care coordinated around your rehab plan
  • Complements — never replaces — your doctor or physical therapist

What the Research Says

Health Authority

The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (part of the National Institutes of Health) reviews what current research does and does not show about acupuncture across a range of conditions.

Systematic Review

An individual-patient-data meta-analysis of nearly 21,000 patients found acupuncture was associated with modest improvements in chronic pain compared with both sham and no-acupuncture controls, with benefits that persisted over time.

This research describes acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in general and is not a promise of specific results. Acupuncture is intended to complement — not replace — care from your physician.

Lu Gan founded Amrita Healthcare in 2022. She comes from a third-generation family of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and holds a master's degree in acupuncture from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she was later named a distinguished alumna. She trained under Dr. Wei Liu. The clinic's name carries her own: "Amrita" is Sanskrit for divine nectar, and her Chinese name, 甘露 (Gan Lu), means the same thing. Her practice follows the principle of Yang Zheng — cultivating inner resilience rather than treating symptoms alone. Her work has been featured in People's Daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about your care and what to expect.

How can acupuncture help with a sports injury?

It's a drug-free approach many active people use to support comfort and relaxation as part of a broader recovery routine — alongside, not instead of, your rehab plan.

Should I see a doctor first?

For a new or significant injury, yes — start with your physician or physical therapist for diagnosis and a rehab plan. We complement that care and coordinate around what your team recommends.

What does it help with?

Patients often come to us for muscle tension, soreness, sprains and strains, and general recovery. We tailor the plan to what you're dealing with and your activity goals.

When can I get back to training?

That's guided by your physician or physical therapist. We support your comfort along the way and encourage a gradual return at your own pace.
