Our Story

A name that means divine nectar

Lu Gan founded Amrita Healthcare in Markham in 2022. The clinic carries her own name: “Amrita” is Sanskrit for divine nectar, and her Chinese name, 甘露 (Gan Lu), means the same thing. She comes from a third-generation family of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and holds a master’s degree in acupuncture from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she was later named a distinguished alumna. Her practice follows the principle of Yang Zheng — cultivating the body’s own resilience rather than treating symptoms alone.

How care works here

Every course of care starts with a consultation — your symptoms, your history, and what you want to get back to.

From there a plan is built from the therapies that fit. Amrita practises the full range of Traditional Chinese Medicine — acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, moxibustion, tui na, auricular therapy, acupuncture injection therapy and Chinese herbal medicine — alongside Registered Massage Therapy, so a plan can combine approaches instead of being limited to one.

Appointments can be booked online, and the rate for every service is published on our pricing page in Canadian dollars.

The people you’ll see

Five clinicians practise at Amrita: Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners, Registered Acupuncturists, and a Registered Massage Therapist registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Sufeng (Susan) Peng practised obstetrics and gynecology for more than twenty years at a tertiary hospital in China and is a senior practitioner of Li-style Gua Sha — a technique she trained the clinical team in. Baiying Li studied acupuncture and tui na at Changchun University of Chinese Medicine and trained further at John & Jenny TCM College in Toronto. Ka Ki Li completed the massage therapy program at Centennial College with honours.

Full profiles — training, credentials, and what each practitioner focuses on — are on our practitioners page.
