How Acupuncture Helps

Comfort, Mobility and Support for Your Spine

Back and neck complaints rarely stay in one place — they change how you sit, sleep, lift and turn your head. We look at the whole pattern: where it hurts, which movements set it off, and how the surrounding muscles are holding on. Care is hands-on and paced to you: acupuncture to settle the area, plus manual work and heat where it helps. For a diagnosed disc problem, scoliosis, or anything with numbness, weakness or changing symptoms, this care runs ALONGSIDE your physician, physical therapist or spine specialist — it does not replace their assessment or treatment.

  • A drug-free option to explore for everyday back and neck discomfort
  • Attention to the muscles and movement habits around the painful area
  • Supports relaxation, easier movement and better rest
  • Works alongside your physician, PT or spine specialist — never instead of them

What the Research Says

Health Authority

The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (part of the National Institutes of Health) reviews what current research does and does not show about acupuncture across a range of conditions.

Systematic Review

An individual-patient-data meta-analysis of nearly 21,000 patients found acupuncture was associated with modest improvements in chronic pain compared with both sham and no-acupuncture controls, with benefits that persisted over time.

This research describes acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in general and is not a promise of specific results. Acupuncture is intended to complement — not replace — care from your physician.

Founder · Registered TCM Practitioner & Registered Acupuncturist

Lu Gan founded Amrita Healthcare in 2022. She comes from a third-generation family of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and holds a master's degree in acupuncture from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she was later named a distinguished alumna. She trained under Dr. Wei Liu. The clinic's name carries her own: "Amrita" is Sanskrit for divine nectar, and her Chinese name, 甘露 (Gan Lu), means the same thing. Her practice follows the principle of Yang Zheng — cultivating inner resilience rather than treating symptoms alone. Her work has been featured in People's Daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about your care and what to expect.

What spine-related complaints do you see?

Most often low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, muscle tension, and discomfort that comes with posture patterns or a diagnosed disc problem. At the first visit we talk through your history and whether this care is a sensible fit for you.

I have a disc problem (or scoliosis) — can you help?

We can often help with the muscular discomfort around it, and we work alongside your physician, physical therapist or spine specialist. We do not diagnose spine conditions or attempt to correct a curve or a disc — that stays with your medical team.

When should I see a doctor first?

Please see your physician promptly for new weakness, numbness that is spreading, loss of bladder or bowel control, pain after a significant injury, or symptoms that keep worsening. Those need medical assessment before any bodywork.

What does a session involve?

Usually acupuncture to settle the area, often with cupping, gua sha, tui na or heat depending on how the muscles present that day. Sessions are paced to your comfort and we adjust as you respond.
